Direct Selling Client: Immersive Gala Dinner – Taiwan Client

The brief

When Amway Taiwan came to us to help them produce an Immersive British Gala Dinner in London, our creative minds ran wild. Among the themes we presented, we included a Medieval Banquet, a Bond Extravaganza and a Great British Tea Party to name but a few.  One idea transcended all others, a theme laced with mystery and intrigue, of Magic & Muggles! Based on our iconic British fictional character and his mythical world, we transformed a hidden London gem venue into a real life Harry Potter and Hogwarts experience! Amway Taiwan’s requirements were for guests to have a total immersion into the magical world with back to back entertainment and high end food and beverage. In addition, the 120 guest Gala had a strict timeline – beginning at 6.30 pm and ending at 9.30 pm sharp. We accepted the challenge presented to us and worked on a little magic of our own!

The solution

The magical journey began with an iconic Vintage Routemaster ride from their hotel to our secret Platform 9 ¾  for a drinks reception and collection of their branded Gryffindor capes, whilst being greeted by character look alikes. Canapes and drinks were circulated before our Mandarin speaking team members invited guests to travelled through ‘Diagon Alley’ to the ‘Great Hall’. The alley, created with draping, recognisable signs and sounds from the fictional wizard high street further immersed guests into the theme.

On arrival to the Great Hall, guests were astounded with the setting before them! The high ceilings were the perfect backdrop for the Amway logo and instilled a sense of reverence on arrival, with a spotlight streaming through haze onto the main stage and backdrop featuring the recognisable Hogwarts Castle by moonlight.  Every detail was considered, from backdrops on the walls, flickering candles and table centres that flourished around a pewter cauldrons cascading with dry ice over potion bottles, leather books and wild flowers.

Once guests were seated the first act of the evening snaked through the tables. On stage, Britain’s Got Talent winners ‘Pre Skool’ opened the show. The child dance group, dressed in Hogwarts cloaks and scarves, opened the act to an ethereal, trill similar to the original movie score.  The second act – a four piece band who were adept at performing some of the top hits of the UK as well as those from Asia – were then sent on stage. The lead singer captivated and delighted guests with her perfect mandarin before the third act swept on to the stage amid a flurry of white smoke.  The world renowned illusionist, Sean Alexander arrived to mesmerise guests with his optical illusions and magical performance, including making an audience member levitate!  Sean’s contribution to the evening didn’t stop there.  As the Amway MCs took to the stage to recognise and reward, Sean conjured the camera prize in a flurry of fire to give out to the guests! The crowd were stunned and amazed, ready for more entertaining delights to continue the evening with the Mandarin singing band, who ended the second set on a high with a popular Taiwanese hit for which guests rose from their seats to dance to!

With the event running to a rigorous time frame, and the evening drawing to a close, our final act was to bring back Pre Skool for a stand out finale.  The kids performed with explosive energy, and as the very last performance of the night, danced to 姐姐 (Sister), one of the top hits of Taiwan by artists Jeannie Hsieh!

The verdict

The guests and our client were thrilled with the event, commenting, ‘“It was really a magical night and we heard our diamonds talking about it a lot with wonderful smiles and lots of excitement. Thank you to all the team”.  Up against the challenges of a stringent time scale and working alongside multiple teams we were thrilled with the feedback, and that guests departed full of high quality food and an utterly unique and unforgettable experience to treasure for ever – the perfect parting gift after their incentive programme for London.
